Hearts for Haiti - The PTA is sending home pink hearts for you to cut out and decorate. We will hang the hearts at the Valentine Sale on 2/12 in support of the people of Haiti. You can send in a cash donation with your heart in an envelope marked "Hearts for Haiti" all week.  Donations will be accepted in the main office collection box and in the gym on the day of the Valentine sale.  The PTA will match donations up to $1000.00.  For more info on the relief efforts and on donating directly by check to any other organizations helping the effort - visit http://schools.nyc.gov.

our 4th Annual Parent/Staff Talent Show is coming 3/4/10 at 6:30 p.m.

We are seeking donations of art work and gift items for our silent auction. Contact joanie61@verizon.net if you have an item to donate.

Parents Can Sign up for School Alerts
Sign up for a free service by visiting schools.nyc.gov or call 311.  If school opens late or dismisses early, or other unexpected events, you can receive an update via phone, text message, or e-mail, through Notify NYC, NYC's public notification system.



What's happening in the PS 102 Garden?
 
Check out our PS 102 Garden Pages (under Events and Special Programs.)  We have launched an on-line GARDEN NAME SEARCH and hope you will contribute your best suggestions.  We are currently working on the houseplant progam in the indoor light garden and are pleased to announce two grants have been awarded! - an indoor aerogarden and the PAAP grant for a 3rd grade family art project in the garden. Come on out to the next meeting, or email  Margaret Sheri at msheri@ps102.org  Thanks to all who have helped and donated to our efforts.  

APL - ARIS PARENT LINK
Last June, PS 102 parents were given letters introducing them to APL. The first letter included their child's Student ID #, (or OSIS #)  the second has a unique password for accessing the site. APL allows you to access the same information on your child that educators use. Contact Margaret Sheri if you cannot located these letters or numbers, need help logging on, do not have an email account, or need to access a computer for viewing your child's APL account at: www.ARISparentlink.org  Biographical information was added during the summer. If you note any discrepencies on your child's record, please use the APL update request form found here or in the main office..

H1N1/Seasonal Flu
Students whose parents completed consent forms received the H1N1 vaccinations in school on 12/10/09 and 1/4/10. PLEASE follow all guidelines on keeping your family healthy this flu season.  Help stop the spread of the flu by keeping your children home if they have symptoms of flu-like illness: fever with cough or fever with sore throat  New Yorkers with symptoms of influenza can consult a nurse by calling 311...operators will provide concerned New Yorkers with information on what to do if they or a family member feels sick with flu-like illness. Callers with symptoms of influenza will be connected to registered nurses, who will provide information and advice on whether to seek care.


PS102 and HeartShare have received a Physics Outreach Grant from the New York State Section of the American Physical Society to implement an after-school science enrichment curriculum based on the book Teaching Physics with Toys. The Physics Outreach Grant program supports projects that increase public understanding and appreciation of physics particularly for K-12 students.
